The University Computing Centre (SRCE) as the project carrier for the University of Zagreb was founded in 1971 and is the oldest infrastructural institution in the field of information and communication technology (ICT) within the academic community. The founder of SRCE is the University of Zagreb. SRCE is the heart of the national academic and research information infrastructure, caring out projects in the field of high speed networking and grid computing. The University Computing Centre has a thirty-three year old tradition of organizing professional courses in the field of ICT and as center of ICT expertise foster and support implementation of ICT in education and research area. SRCE encourages intensive cooperation with all the institutions involved in the establishing information infrastructure and using ICT in the Republic of Croatia, as well as with similar academic institutions and projects within EU.

The University of Zagreb is the 300 year old university and the oldest higher education institution in Croatia and among the oldest one in this part of the Europe. At 29 faculties and 3 art academies and at number of university programmes study about 60000 students. University of Zagreb has been the coordinator of the number of the Tempus projects (University Management and Structural Measures) and has the considerable experience in their management. University of Zagreb is member of Rector's Conferences of the Danube Region, UNICA and Coimbra Group. Some successful pilot project in the field of e-learning were performed at the university by individual teachers, but the overall level of usage of e-learning technology is unsatisfactory and university management is ready to approve some systematic measures in this field.
